Canadian sovereign cloud

Canada made sovereign compute a national priority. Most organizations aren't ready.

In June 2026 the federal government launched AI for All, a national AI strategy with sovereignty as one of three pillars — committing to build "the foundations of sovereign Canadian AI: compute, cloud, connectivity, data, and talent."

Procurement has already moved. Data residency language now appears in most Canadian government RFPs. Alberta's Sovereign Compute Environment excludes vendors subject to the U.S. CLOUD Act outright. Ontario and B.C. have added sovereignty assessments to vendor qualification.
